We strolled into breakfast about 0815 after one of the best nights sleep I’ve had all trip. We had a chat to the receptionist about the weather and she had told us that they had had snow 3 days ago!! Luckily the weather that morning was about 17 degrees.
Some of the group went off on a morning hike and safari but Deb, Kate and I decided to have a chilled day and do our own exploring. We left the hostel about 1030 and followed the signs to the beach which took us to over a wooden bridge over the sea and to what appeared to be a dead end. It was only when we looked left that we saw what looked like a sandy path leading the way part in the sea and part on land. After much laughing and cambering about over sand dunes and through bushes we made our way onto the beach. Kate had decided that she wants to create a montage of video clips and put them together with the Africa song in the background so there was a number of ridiculous shenanigans taking place during the day. The wind had crept up that morning so we were blasted by wind and sand as we walked along the shore (our own form of natural exfoliation). We spent half an hour walking along the beach before heading up some wooden steps and through a park before ending up on the “main road” before finding a nice little restaurant for lunch. We stayed there a good few hours chatting and just enjoying the sun before it disappeared and the wind picked up again so we headed back the way we came and attempted the clambering back to the hostel. It was a very relaxed day which was well needed and good to spend some time with the girls who I get on with really well.

 Today was a full 10 hour drive to the Wild Coast on the East of South Africa.
We put down our tents, had breakfast and got on the road for 7am. We spent about 30 minutes searching for Tupperware boxes of cereal that has mysteriously disappeared and then discovered empty boxes the other side of the campsite, the general consensus was that wild dogs had for hold of them and managed to eat the contents without taking off the lid completely - clever things! The drive took us over every type of landscape, flat agricultural, wooded and forested and then hilly and green that could have easily been mistaken for the English Countryside. We arrived at our lodge The Bucaneers about 5pm and was shown to our dorm room where we dumped everything and then went to the bar for free wine and a game of pool. We got talking to a newly married couple from Hamburg and spent most of the evening chatting away to the locals who had turned up to say hi. Nice evening meal and then in bed by 9:30pm which was late for us! Today I decided to do absolutely nothing and have a chill out day with a girl on the trip Deb.
We spent the day reading our books, having coffee in the little shack set up for it and just generally pottering about. The weather has not been good today, it has threatened rain all day and none of the excursions out to see Lesotho interested either of us. Leisurely day has done me the world of good actually. I have been having a bad reaction to some mosquito bites recently so this was just what the doctor ordered. |
